GLOVE Hygiene Trainer

Teach the correct way to don and doff disposable gloves safely and hygienically.

This NEW British-made Glove Hygiene Trainer, will help you deliver disposable glove safety training, in a memorable, easy-to-follow way.

Training staff to properly use disposable gloves is essential to maintaining hygiene and safety in the workplace, especially in healthcare, food service, and industrial environments

When disposable gloves are worn and removed incorrectly they can very easily cross-contaminate the wearer with the very hazards they sought to avoid coming into contact with, be it chemicals, bio-hazard material or pathogens!

The training objective is to ensure disposable gloves can be safely donned and removed without the outer ‘contaminated’ side coming into contact with the hands, skin or clothing of the wearer.

Learning how to safely don (put-on) and doff (take-off) disposable gloves in the correct, professional way dramatically reduces the risk of cross-contamination.

Kit Includes: UV Forensic Torch, 2 x 50ml UV GERM Hygiene Training Lotion and a step-by-step training guide housed in a high-quality ABS Case.

GLOWTEC Quality Assured. If it doesn’t bear our name, then its not the same!

How to use

GLOVE Hygiene Training in a nutshell:

Before providing the WHO method of Glove Hygiene, have each trainee…

  1. Don disposable gloves in their usual way.
  2. Apply UV GERM Lotion and rub over both gloved hands.
  3. Place hands under your UV light (or Showbox Pro) to ensure full coverage
  4. Remove gloves and dispose.
  5. Place hands back under the UV light and check for cross-contamination on hands or forearms.

Now provide glove hygiene training and then have the trainees repeat the above process.  If they have learned to don and remove gloves properly, they will have no signs of UV GERM (cross-contamination) on themselves!

Safe Donning and Removal Doffing of Nitrile Gloves (W.H.O. Method)

This training course outlines the essential steps for the safe donning (putting on) and doffing (taking off) of disposable nitrile gloves, a critical component of personal protective equipment (PPE). Following these steps meticulously helps prevent self-contamination and the spread of microorganisms.

Section 1: Pre-Gloving & Donning

This section covers the steps for preparing to wear gloves and putting them on correctly.

Step 1: Perform Hand Hygiene

  • Action: Wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub for at least 20 seconds. Ensure they are completely dry before proceeding.
  • Why: Even if the gloves are sterile, your hands may not be. This step removes transient microorganisms that could be transferred to the gloves and potentially contaminate a patient or surface if the glove integrity is compromised. It also prevents the growth of germs inside the warm, moist environment of the gloves.

Step 2: Inspect Gloves

  • Action: Before you begin, inspect the gloves for any tears, holes, or defects. Check the expiration date on the box.
  • Why: A compromised glove offers no protection and could be a pathway for contamination.

Step 3: Put on the First Glove

  • Action: Take the first glove from the box, touching only the cuff and the interior of the glove. Slide your hand in, pulling the glove up your wrist.
  • Why: Touching the exterior of the glove before it’s fully on can contaminate the surface that will be in contact with a patient or surface. Keeping the glove clean is paramount.

Step 4: Put on the Second Glove

  • Action: Take the second glove by the cuff. With your gloved hand, carefully slide the fingers under the cuff of the second glove and pull it on.
  • Why: This technique prevents the gloved hand from touching the skin of the other hand, maintaining a clean-on-clean contact.

Step 5: Adjust and Smooth

  • Action: Once both gloves are on, adjust them for a comfortable fit. Ensure there are no wrinkles or loose areas. The gloves should extend over the cuff of your gown or sleeve if you are wearing one.
  • Why: A well-fitting glove reduces the risk of tearing and provides better dexterity. Covering the cuff prevents any gap where pathogens could gain access to your skin or clothing.

Section 2: Doffing & Post-Doffing

This section covers the steps for safely removing gloves to avoid contaminating your hands and environment.

Step 1: The “Beak” Method for the First Glove

  • Action: Use the thumb and index finger of one hand to grasp the outside of the other glove near the wrist. Pinch and pull the glove down, turning it inside out as you remove it.
  • Why: You are touching the “dirty” outer surface of the glove with the “dirty” outer surface of the other glove. This prevents contamination of your skin.

Step 2: Enclose the First Glove

  • Action: As you pull the first glove off, hold the now-inside-out glove in the palm of your still-gloved hand.
  • Why: This contains the dirty glove, preventing it from touching other surfaces or parts of your body.

Step 3: Remove the Second Glove

  • Action: With your now ungloved hand, slide two fingers under the cuff of the remaining glove. Be careful not to touch the outer, dirty surface of the glove.
  • Why: By sliding your fingers under the cuff, you are only touching the “clean” inner surface of the glove. This is the first point where your ungloved hand makes contact, and it must be with a clean surface.

Step 4: Enclose and Discard

  • Action: Peel the second glove down over the first, enclosing it entirely. The second glove should also be turned inside out, forming a compact ball with the first glove inside. Discard this ball in the appropriate receptacle immediately.
  • Why: This seals away all contaminants, minimizing the risk of exposure to anyone handling the waste.

Step 5: Perform Hand Hygiene

  • Action: Immediately after doffing, perform hand hygiene again using soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Why: This is a crucial final step. There is always a risk of small, unseen droplets or contaminants having come into contact with your hands during the doffing process. This step provides the final assurance of protection.
